Annandale Street to Picardy Place southbound road closure
LHNCC’s web weaver apologies for not also posting this on LHNCC’s website when it was first supplied.
On 24 October 2022, there will be changes to the traffic management arrangements on the southbound section of Leith Walk between Annandale Street and Picardy Place to allow final surfacing and lining works to take place.
This will involve a closure of the southbound carriageway for approximately three weeks from Annandale Street to the Picardy Place turnback, including the full junction at London Road. The Picardy Place turnback will remain operational throughout the duration of these works. Continue reading

Traffic delays at Bonnington Toll
(adapted from an email from Edinburgh Council time-stamped 12:21 on 30 May [today].)
I write to provide an update with regards the traffic delays this week due to the work taking place at Bonnington Toll (as detailed below).
Over the past 2 days, a number of private vehicles parked close to the work area have made it difficult for large vehicles to pass the traffic management and as such this has extended journey times for commuters quite significantly at times.
However, as of this morning it has been managed to move all vehicles which were causing an obstruction and as a result journey times are significantly better this morning.
In addition, there have been some adjustments to the temporary traffic signal timings, to reflect the dynamic flows at the junction throughout the day. It is hoped that for the remainder of the work traffic queues and delays can remain as short as possible.
If you need to discuss this in any more detail or would like a further update, or have any concerns from residents, please do not hesitate to contact Steven Blacklaw. Please also CC secretary.lccc@leithcentralcc.co.uk

Proposed Carriageway Resurfacing Works – Summer 2019/20
(adapted from an email from Edinburgh Council)
The carriageway on a number of streets in your Ward are due to be resurfaced during the Summer of 2019. The roads affected have been prioritised because of their current condition and because the upcoming tram works will prevent any planned resurfacing work from taking place in and around the proposed tram line during the construction period.
The resurfacing works are planned to start on 27 May and will be carried out during weekdays in separate phases in order to minimise disruption to the public. On some traffic sensitive routes, work may be carried out under nightshift to minimise the impact on traffic. Most roads affected will be fully or significantly resurfaced with a select few being only partially resurfaced or patched as required. There will also be some improvements to pedestrian facilities, traffic signal upgrades and renewal of some street furniture.
Great Junction Street carriage renewal
(adapted from a notice from Edinburgh Council)
Click to download the full notice: GJS Residents Notification Letter.
This work is scheduled to commence on Monday 8th January 2018 and will last approximately 4 weeks depending on weather and other circumstances.
Traffic on Great Junction Street will be restricted to northbound only in order for the works to be carried out safely.
To facilitate this the following closures will be in place:
- Great Junction Street from the Bonnington Road junction to North Junction Street/Ferry Road Junction to all vehicular traffic travelling south towards the foot of Leith Walk. North bound traffic towards North Junction Street will be maintained for the duration of the construction phase.
- Cables Wynd from Yardheads to Great Junction Street will also be closed for the duration of the construction phase.
The diversion route for south bound traffic that would normally travel along Great Junction Street is via Coburg Street, Sandport Place and Henderson Street, to arrive back at Great Junction Street.
Traffic will be managed in and out of Mill Lane, Taylor Gardens and Ballantyne Road by the contractor. There will be left turn only policy for traffic exiting Bonnington Road, Bangor Road and Ballantyne Road for the duration of the works. There will be a right-turn only policy for traffic exiting Taylor Gardens and Mill Lane for the duration of the works.Parking suspensions will be in place to suspend waiting, loading and unloading on both sides of Great Junction Street from Bonnington Road junction to North Junction Street, Cables Wynd from Yardheads to Great Junction Street, King Street in its entirety, 25m west along Bonnington Road from GJS, and Coburgh Street in its entirety.
