Parking on pavements, cycle-paths etc

The following information was provided by PC Weaver to Leith Central CC.

Parking on Pavements

Whilst it is currently not an offence to be parked on the pavement in Scotland, per se, legislation does exist to allow officers to deal with these type of incidents.

In most cases the offence of causing an obstruction will be most pertinent. There is no exact definition of obstruction, but a rule of thumb would be whether or not a pram or wheelchair could still navigate past, without having to going onto the roadway.

In most instances it will be necessary to examine the individual circumstances and determine what, if any, offences have been committed. Continue reading

Support for businesses during the tram-works

The Trams to Newhaven team have sent out a newsletter about the support they are offering to businesses during the construction of the tram extension to Newhaven.

Support will include

  • A business continuity fund to support local business who suffer from short-term cash flow issues during construction.
  • A discount scheme funded by the Council allowing your customers to buy goods at a reduced price and at no cost to your business.
  • Local delivery innovations, allowing your shop to make deliveries to customer using cargo bikes
  • An investment in the local area to maintain cleanliness and carry out improvements to shop fronts
  • A dedicated local business champion who will be able to advise you on a variety of ways to get your business ready for the works and who will host free digital skills improvement workshops
  • A significant open for business campaign across a variety of channels, including digital and traditional methods
  • The introduction of three local transport hubs that will provide temporary car parking, bicycle parking, bus stops and loading bays during construction.
  • Strategically located logistics hubs staffed with the appropriate number of logistics officers, based on specific demand in each local area. All officers will be trained in manual handling and lifting heavy loads and will assist with deliveries.

Leith Communities Centre – Trustee Vacancies

Can you spare a few hours each month of your time, knowledge, skills & enthusiasm to help us?

Would you like to learn new skills?

Leith Community Centre is managed by Leith Community Centre Association SCIO, which is a charitable body of volunteers, in partnership with Edinburgh Council.

We currently have vacancies for four new Trustees to join us. The role of a Trustee is to run the charity and assist in the running of the Community Centre.

No experience is needed as training & support will be provided.

Need some support to volunteer such as child care, travel assistance etc? We can work with you to help you fully participate.
