Petition: new bus route to connect The Shore to Portobello

LHNCC residents may be interested in this petition. It calls for a new bus route to connect The Shore and Portobello ‘to better connect our vibrant neighboring communities’.

According to the petition organisers, ‘Traveling between The Shore in Leith to Portobello High Street is a quick trip of only a few miles along Seafield, but there is no direct bus route which connects the two. Traveling by car is bad for the environment and not possible for all residents – we believe that beach trips and Shore drinks should be easier for everyone!’

Annandale Street to Picardy Place southbound road closure

LHNCC’s web weaver apologies for not also posting this on LHNCC’s website when it was first supplied.

On 24 October 2022, there will be changes to the traffic management arrangements on the southbound section of Leith Walk between Annandale Street and Picardy Place to allow final surfacing and lining works to take place.

This will involve a closure of the southbound carriageway for approximately three weeks from Annandale Street to the Picardy Place turnback, including the full junction at London Road. The Picardy Place turnback will remain operational throughout the duration of these works. Continue reading

Petition: better bus services for Leith!

LHNCC’s neighbours, Leith Links Community Council have created this petition calling for better bus services for Leith: https://www.change.org/p/better-bus-services-for-leith. To quote the petition,

We have NO buses at all on the north side of Leith Links, although 1000s of new residents are moving into large new housing developments there. Having to walk across the Links (especially in the dark) is a safety (especially for women) issue as well as a transport issue.

We have lost the 22 bus (that we were promised would stay, at least until the tram is running).

There is no direct bus to the Western General although Leithers are generally referred there by NHS services, rather than to the RIE.

Bus stops are being removed or spaced out too far apart, all around the city, which makes it difficult for older people to use the bus system.

Bus lanes now seem to be threatened, which will slow down bus travel and make it less attractive – thus encouraging more car use.
