Tram-work near Victoria Dock and Ocean Drive

Trams to Newhaven advises

Ocean Terminal to Rennie’s Isle

Preparation works are ongoing in the area ahead of the closure of the Victoria Dock Bridge in order to carry out reinforcement and structural works. To accommodate these works there is a requirement to extend the temporary traffic lights east bound. View the updated traffic management plan.

Ocean Drive footpath closure

From Monday 24 May a footpath closure will be implemented with a temporary pedestrian diversion in place. There will be no through route for pedestrians/cyclists accessing the area. A suggested diversion route is via Rennie’s Isle / Commercial Street. Signage will be installed in the local area to inform pedestrians and cyclists. View the diversion plan here.

Rennie’s Isle consultation – closing soon!

VRS Limited has plans ‘a mixed use development and sustainable Build to Rent scheme’. This would be at 1 Rennie’s Isle, ‘an existing 1980s design office building that sits at the north eastern corner of Victoria Quay on Ocean Drive’

This site ‘lies just outside of the Leith Conservation Area (and the sub-zone of Old Leith and the Shore) in ‘North Leith’ just to the south of the active docks.’

VRS says ‘The design is at an early stage but we intend to submit an application for planning permission for a complete redevelopment of the building. This will include mixture of live-work apartments to rent as well as affordable housing and potential active ground floor uses.’

Read more about VRS’s plans in the ‘online exhibition’.

Say what you think in the ‘online consultation’.

Closing date 26 May 2021.

Changes to Permitted Development Rights from April 1st

Edinburgh Planning writes:

Permitted development rights are types of works, usually less complex and minor proposals such as small alterations and extensions that can be carried out without the need to apply for planning permission. From April 1st,  new extended permitted development rights came into force which allow residents of both houses and flats to build structures and cycle stores within both their front and rear gardens.
