Scotland’s Climate Assembly will bring together over 100 people, representative of the population of Scotland, to tackle the question:
‘How should Scotland change to tackle the climate emergency in an effective and fair way?’
<p “>Assembly members will gather over 6 weekends to hear evidence, deliberate on the challenges and come up with some recommendations for government. It all begins on the 7th November.
Before we get underway, the Assembly wants to hear from as much of the public as possible. How do you think Scotland should address climate change? How do we make sure solutions are both effective – working for the planet – and fair – working for everyone?
We therefore invite you to share your ideas and comments on our online platform, which will be open until the 26th October. Please share this information with your fellow council members.
How to participate:
All contributions will be taken into consideration in the development of the Assembly.
To give as many people as possible the chance to engage, we would appreciate your sharing this information as widely as you can. We look forward to reading your ideas!

I’m getting in touch from Ecas, an Edinburgh-based charity supporting adults with physical disabilities. During the covid-19 pandemic we are still operating our Befriending Service on a distance basis, with volunteers helping to reduce social isolation over the phone or video calling app. We are looking to receive more referrals at the moment, so I am contacting you to see whether this information could be disseminated among OTs, physiotherapists, community workers and social workers in NE Edinburgh.
We are currently in a strange position whereby our client pool has reduced, while interest from volunteers has skyrocketed. So we’re looking for more referrals to try and put people’s time to good use. Following any referral, an assessment would take place with the client over the phone or over video app. If this is something you can help with, please let me know and I can forward on the details and appropriate forms.

The year 2020 has been a momentous one. Millions of people have rediscovered walking during the COVID-19 pandemic and governments across the UK have prioritised active travel.
But the pandemic has also highlighted the inadequacies of our walking environments, the stark inequalities in our local communities and the isolation and loneliness experienced by older adults.
This is the time for a walking movement to address these challenges.

Scotland Cycle Repair Scheme
Free bike repairs worth up to £50 for those who need it most right now

Through the Scotland Cycle Repair Scheme, bike shops across Scotland are providing up to £50 worth of free bike repairs to those who need it most – whether it’s for an old bike that needs some work to make it roadworthy, or one that’s well used but requires some care.
Who can get their bike fixed?
People who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford these repairs. The COVID-19 crisis has hit many people hard, so we know it can be difficult to pay for essential bike repairs right now.
What repairs are covered?
- Punctures or old tires
- Problems with brakes
- Gears that don’t work properly
- Other issues that stop you using the bike
All cycles are welcome in the scheme including adults’ and children’s bikes, e-bikes and non-standard cycles e.g. tandems, tricycles, hand cycles and side-by-side cycles.
How do I use the scheme to get my bike fixed?
Search for your nearest participating bike shop either online via the Scotland Cycle Repair Scheme map www.cyclinguk.org/ScotCycleRepair or look out for a bike shop displaying our poster or window sticker.
You simply contact the bike shop to book your bike in for repairs. They will look at the bike and let you know what work needs doing, before going ahead with any repairs.

The Covid-19 pandemic has affected how community councils are operating but they are still carrying out great work helping their communities at this difficult time. We are hearing some great responses from CCs across the country and this section of the website aims to highlight lots of positive examples of the work CCs are doing to support the Covid-19 response.
We want to hear from you and highlight examples of good practice in response to Covid-19. If you’d like us to include what your community council is doing, please get in touch.
We are aware community councils are adapting to new ways of working and engaging with their communities. Have a look at our dedicated page for tips and advice on using digital tools to meet online.

A new fund designed to support local regeneration and sustainable development around Scotland’s coastline has been launched by Crown Estate Scotland. Read more about it here.

Zero Waste Scotland – in partnership with Scottish Government and Keep Scotland Beautiful – has launched a new campaign to encourage everyone to take pride in our outdoor spaces and keep them litter free. Read more about it here.

We need your help to make sure the needs and concerns of EU/EEA/Swiss citizens, and their family members, living in Scotland are taken on board by those who make decisions which affect them. Citizens’ Rights Project wants to hear about people’s experience whilst applying for the EU Settlement Scheme. We also want hear from those who need to apply, but haven’t done it yet. People can follow this link to complete our online survey ‘Let’s Settle This’: Take the survey
Alternatively, they are also welcome to submit their testimonials via email or talk through the points via video or voice mail. They can send the files to info@citizensrightsproject.org. Those interested, will need to submit their answers by 12pm on Thursday, 30th July.

Given the unusual nature of the circumstances we are in, we are doing our best for the Community Council and also the best in our responsibility to deliver upon our commitment to the community which we serve.
Because LHNCC is currently learning how to conduct meetings online, this will be a members-only ‘discussion’ meeting.
LHNCC is aware that online meetings exclude those who cannot access them, whatever the reason. However, this is the best it can offer under the current circumstances.
We would also like to thank all the valiant people who are providing essential services across all sectors in our community and beyond.
