The Spurtle will host hustings for the Scottish Parliamentary election from 7.30pm–9.00pm on 14 April in Broughton St Mary’s Parish Church (Bellevue Crescent).
Representatives have been invited from all 10 parties/independents standing in the Edinburgh Northern & Leith constituency. Full details are on the Spurtle website.

Leith Community Cinema’s latest film showing is Bride and Prejudice, on Friday 18th March at 7pm.
Suggested entry is £3 although LCC accepts donations as people feel able.
On the night there will be food from Punjabi Junction (cost £2 per head) along with craft beer tasting and Indian dancing. Tickets can be reserved at www.leithcommunitycinema.com

The events team at the Royal Yacht Britannia have informed us there will be two short firework displays on 11 March at 22.15 hrs and 21April at 21.00hrs, both lasting approximately 3 minutes.

Hibernian Community Foundation, the charity arm of Hibernian FC, has launched Game Changer, an ambitious Public Social Partnership in collaboration with many partners, chief among them NHS Lothian and Edinburgh City Council.
‘The aim is to unlock the power and passion associated with football and to make greater use of all Hibernian’s physical, cultural and professional assets, to deliver a better, healthier future for the most vulnerable, disenfranchised or disadvantaged in our communities.’
Leith Harbour & Newhaven CC needs at least one new member to continue. But that’s not an upper limit – there are spaces for up to 7 new members. LHNCC will welcome new people to carry on its work on local matters.
If you live in LHNCC’s area*, you can nominate yourself between Monday 7 March and Wednesday 30th March. We’ll post about the nomination process as soon as we can.
If there are 8 or more valid nominations, then an election will be required – this would be notified on Monday 4 April and the polling day would be Monday 25 April 2016. However, if there are 7 or fewer valid nominations, the nominees will automatically become members of LHNCC.

Friends of the Water of Leith Basin

I took a walk along the WoL path recently to look at the spring flowers we planted and was very disappointed by the amount of rubbish that has accumulated around Coalie Park and along the paths.
A joint cleanup has been arranged with the WoL Conservation trust for Sunday 28th February 10.30am – 1pm.
