LHNCC secretary shortlisted for ‘Community Champion’ award

LHNCC’s secretary, Jennifer Marlborough, was recently shortlisted for the Edinburgh Evening News Local Hero ‘Community Champion’ Award. As others wrote, ‘Jenny is well known for her tireless voluntary work, first and foremost on Leith Harbour & Newhaven Community Council, where she is both secretary and planning lead, but also on a range of other worthy causes including bus and tram users’ groups, Leith Civic Trust, the Heart of Newhaven Group and SOSLeith, who nominated her.’

Warm and welcoming Edinburgh

City of Edinburgh Council (CEC) is undertaking ‘warm and welcoming’ work, in the face of cost of living concerns. CEC suggests organisations can contribute in one or both of two ways:

The Warm and Welcoming Spaces Map

The map will provide a visual representation of what’s available and where across the city. This will be static information which will inform people of location, accessibility, times available and further information via a web link or contact details. Please use this Word document to provide your organisation’s details via email to warm.welcoming@edinburgh.gov.uk.

Warm and Welcoming New Activities and Events

The second part is a web page that will provide information about new activities. These will be added as and when organisations forward the information to us. Please use this Word document: email it to warm.welcoming@edinburgh.gov.uk. The information will also link back to your organisation’s website.

Where activities change or a new activity is to be added, a new pro forma will need to be emailed to warm.welcoming@edinburgh.gov.uk, to ensure the information held by CEC and subsequently promoted is accurate.

What happens next?

Please allow up to 48 hrs for the map and any new events/activities to go live.

The map and activities information will be created using a new Warm and Welcoming Spaces tile on CEC’s Cost of Living page. CEC would encourage organisations to link to that page when promoting anything, because the page has a wide range of useful information. Please contact warm.welcoming@edinburgh.gov.uk, not NTBCC, with any queries.

Although this is a CEC initiative, LHNCC’s web-weaver published it here because organisations and residents in LHNCC’s area may wish to know about it.

Northbound road closure: impact on Leith Walk traffic from 2 October for 3 weeks

Antigua Street – Annandale Street north-bound road closure

On the 2 October 2022 there will be changes to the traffic management arrangements on the north-bound section of Leith Walk between Antigua Street and Annandale Street to allow final surfacing works to be undertaken .

This will involve a full north-bound road closure for approximately three weeks from the Picardy Place turnback to Annandale Street. Please note the Picardy Place turnback will remain operational throughout the duration of these works.

Buses will be using the Picardy turn back. Bus stops on York Place will still be in use and they will be using East London Street and Annandale Street to get back onto Leith Walk.

There will be diversion signage installed in the local area to inform road users of the recommended route. The main diversion route for north-bound cyclists will be Dublin Street, Abercromby Place, Albany Street, Broughton Street and East London Street while traffic will be diverted via Dundas Street, Brandon Terrace, Canonmills, Broughton Road and Bonnington Road. Traffic will also be able to access Broughton Street via York Place and the Picardy Place turnback but this will only be signed in the local vicinity in order to encourage traffic to use the above diversion. Details of Lothian Buses diversions will be listed on their website.
